{"id":931,"date":"2012-02-11T00:04:22","date_gmt":"2012-02-11T00:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=931"},"modified":"2020-08-29T11:34:48","modified_gmt":"2020-08-29T18:34:48","slug":"kale-and-mustard-green-quiche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/kale-and-mustard-green-quiche\/","title":{"rendered":"Kale and Mustard Green Quiche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week my favorite dish from this week&#8217;s distribution of greens from the International Rescue Committee&#8217;s Gila Farm Project.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_933\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-933\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/P2080076.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium aiif933\" title=\"Kale and Mustard Green Quiche\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/P2080076.jpg\" alt=\"Kale and Mustard Green Quiche\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-933\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kale and Mustard Green Quiche<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>Use commercial pie crust or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/basic-pie-crust\/\">MAKE YOUR OWN<\/a><\/li>\n<li>You can make this with or without a crust, but if you make one with a crust, PRE-BAKE the crust at 425 for about 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 Mustard Green leaves<\/li>\n<li>12 Kale Leaves (destemmed and thoroughly massaged)<\/li>\n<li>6 large eggs<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 CU milk<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL olive oil<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL All Purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 onion chopped small<\/li>\n<li>3 cloves garlic chopped small<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 CU shredded cheddar cheese<\/li>\n<li>salt and pepper to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEP BY STEP<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wash three mustard green leaves and about a dozen kale leaves<\/li>\n<li>Remove stems and steam leaves until soft<\/li>\n<li>Chop into small pieces and S-Q-U-E-E-Z-E the water from them<\/li>\n<li>Chop squeezed pieces again to make sure they are really small<\/li>\n<li>Add above ingredients to the minced greens<\/li>\n<li>Grandma likes a vegetable quiche, but I like my meat, so I put chopped up pieces of salami for my half of the quiche, and marked my half with small strips of salami ( see photo )<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Test for doneness by sticking a knife or toothpick into the center of the quiche.<\/li>\n<li>It should be &#8220;clean&#8221; when you remove it&#8230; that is, no liquid stuck to it.<br \/>\nIf there is debris stuck to the toothpick, let it cook another 8-10 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Let it sit for about five minutes before you try to cut it into wedges so that the pieces have a chance to set.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This recipe was published in Grandpa&#8217;s Corner &#8211; International Rescue Committee Gila Farm Initiative newsletter:&nbsp; Volume 1, Issue 6<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week my favorite dish from this week&#8217;s distribution of greens from the International Rescue Committee&#8217;s Gila Farm Project.
