{"id":8872,"date":"2016-02-19T00:45:24","date_gmt":"2016-02-19T00:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=8872"},"modified":"2019-05-17T13:22:52","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T20:22:52","slug":"slow-cooker-refried-beans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/slow-cooker-refried-beans\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow Cooker Refried Beans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/refriedbeans.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8876\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium aiif8876\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/refriedbeans.jpg\" alt=\"refriedbeans\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Wash and rinse pinto beans<br \/>\nSoak overnight in unsalted water<br \/>\nThis not only softens the beans, but gets rid of some of the <em>side effects<\/em> for which beans are best known.<\/p>\n<p>Put into slow cooker and cover with vegetable broth plus 1-2 inches<br \/>\nCOMBINE WITH<br \/>\n2 bay leaves<br \/>\n1 diced onion<br \/>\n1 slice of bacon cut into bits<br \/>\nSeveral cloves of garlic<br \/>\nFresh cilantro<br \/>\n1 tsp cumin<br \/>\n1 tsp sea salt<br \/>\n1 tsp paprika<br \/>\n1\/2 tsp cinnamon<br \/>\nCook 6-8 hours on low heat<br \/>\nCheck the beans every half hour starting at 5 hours to see if they are done to your liking, as some slow cookers cook faster or slower than others.<\/p>\n<p>Use a potato masher to smash your beans<br \/>\nAdd in some cheese and mix into the beans<\/p>\n<p>Serve:<br \/>\nAdd cheese, jalape\u00f1os and sour cream<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Safety Note<\/strong>: If you are cooking kidney beans, boil them for 10 minutes before cooking.
