{"id":5767,"date":"2015-09-14T02:59:18","date_gmt":"2015-09-14T02:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=5767"},"modified":"2019-05-17T15:43:18","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T22:43:18","slug":"tres-leches-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/tres-leches-cake\/","title":{"rendered":"Tres Leches Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/tres-leches.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium aiif5769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/tres-leches.jpg\" alt=\"tres-leches\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>14 oz can of Sweetened Condensed Milk<\/li>\n<li>12 oz can of Evaporated Milk<\/li>\n<li>1 C heavy cream or creme frache<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Evaporated Milk invented by Gail Bordon in the 1856<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eagle Brand Evaporated milk came up with shelf-stable milk in the 1880&#8217;s<\/li>\n<li>Carnation Company came up with the basis for this recipe<\/li>\n<li>Sweetened Condensed Milk is 60% evaporated with sugar added; and is used for Key Lime Pie, Flan and must be thick enough to NOT flatten out and be runny, so America&#8217;s Test Kitchen ran a few tests and discovered that the best overall products were <strong>Eagle Brand and Carnation Sweetened Condensed Milks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Pour condensed milk into a glass bowl and cover with plastic wrap<\/li>\n<li>Microwave for 9-15 minutes &#8211; Stir about every 2-3 minutes<br \/>\n&#8211; Microwave until milk starts to deepen in color<\/li>\n<li>Mix in Evaporated Milk and heavy cream<\/li>\n<li>Also 1 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>Whisk all together<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For the cake<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>2 C AP flour<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp each of salt and ground cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>Whisk together<\/li>\n<li>To 1 C warm milk add 8 TBL butter<br \/>\nContinue to heat until butter melts<\/li>\n<li>Crack 4 eggs into your stand mixer bowl with whisk attachment<\/li>\n<li>Beat until the eggs are fairly well beaten<\/li>\n<li>Add 2 C granulated sugar gradually<\/li>\n<li>Increase mixer to high &#8211; Beat 5-7 minutes until glossy<\/li>\n<li>turn machine to low, then start adding in your hot milk mixture<\/li>\n<li>Add another 2 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>Add 3 C AP flour &#8211; one at a time &#8211; beating between each<\/li>\n<li>Pour into greased and floured 9&#215;12 inch baking disk<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 325 degrees for 30-35 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Let rest about ten minutes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8230; or use Angel Food Cake or similar<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Poke holes liberally into the top of your cake with a chopstick or end of a mixing spoon.<\/li>\n<li>VERY SLOWLY Pour liquid mixture onto the cake<\/li>\n<li>Cool for another 15 minutes, then refrigerate at least 3 hours, preferably overnight<\/li>\n<li>DO NOT COVER or the condensation will make the topping gummy<\/li>\n<li>Take out of fridge about an hour before eating<\/li>\n<li>Top with whipped cream (recipe below)<\/li>\n<li>Garnish top lightly with cinnamon<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Whipped Cream Topping<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 C Heavy Whipping cream<\/li>\n<li>3 TBL corn syrup<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp Vanilla<\/li>\n<li>Beat with a whisk attachment for about 2-3 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>14 oz can of Sweetened Condensed Milk 12 oz can of Evaporated Milk 1 C heavy cream or creme frache Evaporated Milk invented by Gail Bordon in the 1856 Eagle Brand Evaporated milk came up with shelf-stable milk in the 1880&#8217;s Carnation Company came up with the basis for this recipe Sweetened Condensed Milk is &hellip;
