{"id":555,"date":"2011-09-04T12:01:42","date_gmt":"2011-09-04T16:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=555"},"modified":"2019-03-02T16:24:42","modified_gmt":"2019-03-02T23:24:42","slug":"apple-strudel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/apple-strudel\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Strudel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BASIC STRUDEL OVERVIEW<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use strudel pastry (keep moist).<\/li>\n<li>Brush w\/ butter, lay down row of filling, fold ends, roll tightly, brush w\/ butter @ end finish rolling.<\/li>\n<li>Brush outside w\/ butter.<\/li>\n<li>Bake till golden brown.<\/li>\n<li>Cut ends off to sit flat, then cut into serving slices.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 CU flour<\/li>\n<li>3 eggs &#8211; 3 yolks and 2 whites &#8211; third white reserved for end<\/li>\n<li>scant salt<\/li>\n<li>2 TBL vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>3 TBL orange juice<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp vanilla<\/li>\n<li>3 TBL raisins<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp baking soda<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1 CU Turbinado sugar<\/li>\n<li>3 TBL butter or margarine<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL Grandpa&#8217;s CinnaSugar\u00ae<\/li>\n<li>water to moisten to THICK dough consistency<\/li>\n<li>5 apples (cored, but with skins)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEP BY STEP<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Grate apples using large hole grater<\/li>\n<li>Toss apples with 2 TBL sugar and the cinnamon &#8211; SET ASIDE<\/li>\n<li>Mix all ingredients except apples<\/li>\n<li>Place dough on a slightly greased waxed paper<\/li>\n<li>Roll dough making it very thin &#8211; about 1\/8 thickness<\/li>\n<li>Put waxed paper on placemat to give you better control<\/li>\n<li>Spread apples evenly over dough, leaving 1 inch border on longest edge<\/li>\n<li>Roll into long tight tube leaving bare edge on the outside<\/li>\n<li>Brush bare edge with remaining egg white<\/li>\n<li>Put roll on floured or greased bake pan &#8211; seam side down<\/li>\n<li>Butter top of roll<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle 2 TBL Turbinado sugar mixed with cinnamon on top<\/li>\n<li>Bake @ 350 degrees (approx 45 minutes) until top begins to be a dark golden brown<\/li>\n<li>Slice ends off for a quick snack and reward.<\/li>\n<li>Cut remaining rope into about 2 inch slices<\/li>\n<li>Cut the two inch slices on the bias, and set on plate with pointy side of bias cut on top.<\/li>\n<li>Serve with hot cocoa<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BASIC STRUDEL OVERVIEW Use strudel pastry (keep moist).
