It translates as boring, uninspired bread. It is usually served as a side dish. Here are a couple of Turkish Bread Recipes:<\/p>\n<p>See also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/naan\/\"><strong>Naan<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; which is very similar.<\/p>\n<h3>Ekmek<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Cheese Logs<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>3 C water &#8211; bring to a boil<\/li>\n<li>Add 1 TBL granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL olive oil<\/li>\n<li>2 C AP flour\n<ul>\n<li>Stir until the dough comes together<\/li>\n<li>Flatten to let cool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Add 1 tsp baking powder\n<ul>\n<li>Knead on floured surface<\/li>\n<li>Roll as flat as you can<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Spread butter\n<ul>\n<li>Roll into a log<\/li>\n<li>Cut into 1.5 inch pieces<\/li>\n<li>Roll those pieces flat<\/li>\n<li>Get rid of excess flour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Add mixture of parmesan, mozzarella and parsley\n<ul>\n<li>Close and pinch into a canoe shaped pastry<\/li>\n<li>Put onto baking sheet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Combine 1 egg yolk and 1 TBL olive oil\n<ul>\n<li>Brush tops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Top with sesame seeds\n<ul>\n<li>Bake at 350\u00ba for 30 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Ekmek as a side<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Above Flour, Sugar, Salt, Water, oil, baking powder<br \/>\nMix to the consistency of pizza dough.<br \/>\nFlatten roughly with your hands, then pound with the tips of your fingers until it is a little flatter, and very dimpled.<br \/>\nCook at 450\u00ba for 5-8 minutes or in a skillet<\/p>\n<h3>Lavash (translates as Balloon Bread)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The base is ekmek, but you continue to flatten it until it is as thin as pizza dough.<\/li>\n<li>Brush the top with a mixture of egg yolk and water<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 450\u00ba until browned<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle with Nigella Seeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Lahmacun (Used for Turkish Pizza)<\/h3>\n<p>Again, using ekmek as the base, flatten even further and spread with thick tomato paste and spices, then add other desired toppings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Turkey, Ekmek is a very common bread.
