It is a recipe that you MUST know, because you will use it throughout your life so often.<\/p>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 Eggs<\/li>\n<li>2 additional egg yolks<\/li>\n<li>1 C Sugar<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 Brown Sugar<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C whiskey or rum<\/li>\n<li>Dash Vanilla<\/li>\n<li>Grandpa&#8217;s CinnaSugar\u00ae<\/li>\n<li>Merest dash of salt<\/li>\n<li>Zest and juice from one orange<\/li>\n<li>1 C whole or lowfat milk &#8211; NOT skim, because you need the fats to gel properly<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C Cream (Traditionally you should use just cream * I substitute 1\/3 milk instead of cream to keep it healthier)<\/li>\n<li>Optional:&nbsp; Mix in 1\/2 C dried fruit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also use Half and Half rather than the milks listed on the previous two lines.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Optionally:&nbsp; grated orange peel and\/or ginger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEP BY STEP<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cream together eggs and sugar<\/li>\n<li>Mix in vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and orange<\/li>\n<li>Mix with milk and cream<\/li>\n<li>If you are using this as part of another recipe that uses custard, you will probably add whatever those ingredients are right about here.<\/li>\n<li>Pour into greased ramekins<\/li>\n<li>Optional: top with dried cherries or raisins<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 350\u00ba for 35-45 minutes.&nbsp; For a creamier custard, bake at 325\u00ba for 1.5 &#8211; 2 hours.&nbsp; Internal temperature should be about 170\u00ba<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Optional Topping . <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/creme-anglaise\/ \">Cr\u00e8me Anglaise<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/brandy-cream-sauce\/\">Brandy Cream Sauce<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This base recipe can be used alone, or for Bread Pudding, Pumpkin Custard, Personal Custards, and much more.
