{"id":399,"date":"2011-08-23T13:34:18","date_gmt":"2011-08-23T17:34:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=399"},"modified":"2020-05-11T08:27:16","modified_gmt":"2020-05-11T15:27:16","slug":"tomato-salad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/tomato-salad\/","title":{"rendered":"Tomato Salad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This simple garden salad is easy enough for a beginner, but complex enough that it could be served at a high-end restaurant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/4 cup olive oil<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0TBL red wine vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 sprinkle garlic powder<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>a pinch of teaspoon black pepper<\/li>\n<li>4 roma tomatoes, chunked<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 green bell pepper, chunked<\/li>\n<li>1-2 scallions (green onions), sliced<\/li>\n<li>several sprigs chopped fresh basil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEP BY STEP<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In a large bowl, combine olive oil, vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper<\/li>\n<li>Whisk well<\/li>\n<li>Add remaining ingredients and gently toss until evenly coated.<\/li>\n<li>Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tomatoes are at their tastiest when eaten at room temperature.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re assembling this salad in advance and refrigerating, just let it sit out on the counter for 30 minutes or so before serving.<\/li>\n<li>Serve with French bread.
