{"id":3041,"date":"2013-05-28T23:33:13","date_gmt":"2013-05-28T23:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=3041"},"modified":"2021-01-25T18:57:21","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T01:57:21","slug":"fried-okra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/fried-okra\/","title":{"rendered":"Fried Okra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is not something that is normally on my radar, but I put it here because I refer to my own website when I am not sure what I want to cook.\u00a0 I use the list to the right that suggests things to prepare.<\/p>\n<h2>Buying Okra<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Select okra from the grocery that is tender and green.\u00a0 Take a knife.\u00a0 It should cut through easily like soft cheese.\u00a0 If it cuts more like celery, it is too far gone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Fried Okra<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>At home, wash and dry the okra, and cut into 1\/2 inch pieces.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare your first dip:\n<ul>\n<li>3 egg whites (beaten)<\/li>\n<li>3 TBL cold water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Prepare your dredge &#8211; second dip:\n<ul>\n<li>1 C cornmeal<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C flour<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Heat about 3\/4 inches of safflower oil to 375\u00ba<\/li>\n<li>Fry until browned.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Okra Dip<\/h2>\n<p>You can use any recipe, here is one if you don&#8217;t want to go looking around:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 C mayo or Miracle Whip<\/li>\n<li>2 TBL whole milk<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL parsley<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL apple cider vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL lemon or lime juice<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL chopped chives<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp <\/li>\n<li>1 tsp basil<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is not something that is normally on my radar, but I put it here because I refer to my own website when I am not sure what I want to cook.\u00a0 I use the list to the right that suggests things to prepare.
