It\u2019s the perfect vanilla frosting that\u2019s simple, creamy and smooth and tastes unbelievable on vanilla cupcakes!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-ingredients\">\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-ingredients-header\">\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-ingredients-clipboard-container\">\n<h3 data-tasty-recipes-customization=\"h3-color.color h3-transform.text-transform\">Ingredients<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-units-scale-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-ingredients-body\" data-tasty-recipes-customization=\"body-color.color\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"ingredient\"><span data-amount=\"1\" data-unit=\"cup\">1 cup<\/span> (<span data-amount=\"16\" data-unit=\"tbsp\">16 Tbsp<\/span>; <span data-amount=\"226\" data-unit=\"g\">226g<\/span>) <strong>unsalted butter<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sallysbakingaddiction.com\/room-temperature-butter\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/sallysbakingaddiction.com\/room-temperature-butter\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1551303997498000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHZdSFDF5DVA-_Be_XVX4WpDrbK8Q\">softened to room temperature<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\"><span data-amount=\"4\">4<\/span> \u2013 5 cups\u00a0(480-6<span data-amount=\"00\" data-unit=\"g\">00g<\/span>) <strong>confectioners\u2019 sugar<\/strong> (see note)<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\"><span data-amount=\"0.25\" data-unit=\"cup\">1\/4 cup<\/span> (60ml) <strong>heavy cream, half-and-half, <\/strong>or <strong>whole milk<\/strong>, at room temperature<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\"><span data-amount=\"2\" data-unit=\"teaspoon\">2 teaspoons<\/span> <strong>pure vanilla extract<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\"><strong>salt<\/strong>, to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-instructions\">\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-instructions-header\">\n<h3 data-tasty-recipes-customization=\"h3-color.color h3-transform.text-transform\">Instructions<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-instructions-body\" data-tasty-recipes-customization=\"body-color.color\">\n<ol>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-1\">With a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes. Add 4 and 1\/2 cups confectioners\u2019 sugar, the heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to medium-high speed and beat for 2 full minutes. Taste. Add a pinch of salt if frosting is too sweet. I always add 1\/8 teaspoon.<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-2\"><strong>Adjust if needed:<\/strong> You can control the consistency at this point\u2014add up to 1\/2 cup more confectioners\u2019 sugar if frosting is too thin or more heavy cream if frosting is too thick (add only 1 Tablespoon at a time, beat together, then taste and add more if desired).<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-3\">Use immediately or cover tightly and store for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or up to 3 months in the freezer. After freezing, thaw in the refrigerator then beat the frosting on medium speed for a few seconds so it\u2019s creamy again. After thawing or refrigerating, beating in a splash of heavy cream or milk will help thin the frosting out again, if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-notes\">\n<h3 data-tasty-recipes-customization=\"h3-color.color h3-transform.text-transform\">Notes<\/h3>\n<div class=\"tasty-recipes-notes-body\" data-tasty-recipes-customization=\"body-color.color\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Freezing Instructions:<\/strong> Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then beat the frosting on medium speed for a few seconds so it\u2019s creamy again. Follow the ratios written in this <a href=\"https:\/\/sallysbakingaddiction.com\/new-favorite-white-layer-cake\/\">white cake<\/a> for a two layer cake,\u00a0or for a three layer cake use the ratios in this <a href=\"https:\/\/sallysbakingaddiction.com\/funfetti-layer-cake\/\">confetti cake<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Confectioners\u2019 Sugar:<\/strong> If your confectioners\u2019 sugar is particularly lumpy, I recommend sifting it 1-2x before measuring and using.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heavy Cream:<\/strong> I love using heavy cream for the creamiest consistency. You can use half-and-half or whole milk instead if needed. The lower the fat, the less creamy your buttercream will be. Whichever you use, make sure it\u2019s at room temperature.
