{"id":17229,"date":"2019-03-05T16:35:39","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T23:35:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=17229"},"modified":"2019-03-05T16:42:31","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T23:42:31","slug":"planting-plants-from-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/planting-plants-from-food\/","title":{"rendered":"Planting Plants from Food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You don&#8217;t always have to plant from seed.<\/p>\n<h2>Lettuce<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Carefully cut about 2 inches above the roots, removing the outside leaves, but leaving the core.<\/li>\n<li>Put into a container of water, and refresh the water every two days.<\/li>\n<li>It will be ready for harvest in 14 days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Green Onion<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut 2&#8243; above the roots.<\/li>\n<li>Put the roots into a glass of water, and refresh the water every two days.<\/li>\n<li>Harvest in about 7 days.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t use more than 1\/3 of the plant at any time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Basil<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Cut the longest\/highest leaves<\/li>\n<li>Trim off excess leaves and put into water.<\/li>\n<li>Refresh the water every two days.<\/li>\n<li>Roots will appear in about two weeks, and you can put them into soil.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Onion<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut off the roots and put them pieces root-down into soil.<\/li>\n<li>Cover with 1\/2 to 1 inch of soil.<\/li>\n<li>You won&#8217;t be able to see them grow, so mark your calendar:\u00a0 90 days to harvest.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Celery<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut off about 4 inches of the stem.<\/li>\n<li>Put into water and move to soil in 8-10 days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Garlic Chives<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut off roots and put into water.<\/li>\n<li>You can start using the greens in about a week.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t use more than 1\/3 of the plant at any time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Mushrooms<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove mushroom cap for use.<\/li>\n<li>Plant stalk with the cap side barely above ground.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Potatoes<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Plant the eyes under one inch of dirt, a foot apart.<\/li>\n<li>Allow the vines to trail.<\/li>\n<li>Harvest in 90 days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You don&#8217;t always have to plant from seed.
