Basically, fika just means to hava a coffee. But it is so much more than just that. It has been described as a social institution or even phenomena. Swedish people \u2013 often described as distant, calm and unsocial \u2013 love their fika.<\/p>\n<h1>Swedish Doughnuts<\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>Use a heavy cupcake pan, preferably one with round (not flat) bottom.<\/li>\n<li>Batter should be like very heavy pancake batter.<\/li>\n<li>Preheat oven and cupcake pan to 500\u00ba<\/li>\n<li>Put 1-2 tsp clarified butter into each hole<\/li>\n<li>Fill each hole halfway with batter<\/li>\n<li>Cook 12 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Take out and toss in granulated butter<\/li>\n<li>Serve with coffee<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1>Fika Knots<\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a thick pizza type dough, but with a bit of whole grain or raw oatmeal<\/li>\n<li>Proof for an hour<\/li>\n<li>Roll flat<\/li>\n<li>Spread with mixture of butter, sugar, cardamom and cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>Fold into fourths and roll flat, but thick<\/li>\n<li>Cut into strips<\/li>\n<li>Tie each strip into a knot and proof for another hour in a warm place<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 500\u00ba F for 10 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Remove from oven and brush with clarified butter and sugar on top<\/li>\n<li>Serve within 10 minutes of brushing<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fika is a big part of every Swedes everyday life.
