{"id":16123,"date":"2018-10-19T16:02:39","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T23:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=16123"},"modified":"2021-01-25T17:06:56","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T00:06:56","slug":"feeding-your-starter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/feeding-your-starter\/","title":{"rendered":"Feeding Your Starter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is how you will start every single time.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>An assumption at this point is that you have an active viable starter in the refrigerator.<\/li>\n<li>Take 1 C of water and put it into a bowl and set it on the counter for 30-60 minutes.\u00a0\u00a0 Chlorine evaporates quickly, and this will (1)\u00a0 allow much of the chlorination that is present in tap water to dissipate.\u00a0 Alternately, you can use any type of bottled water.\u00a0 Chlorine will evaporate through the plastic; and (2) allow the water to come up to room temperature.<\/li>\n<li>Take the GLASS jar out of the fridge and put it on the counter next to the bowl of water for the same amount of time.\u00a0 Also, this will warm your starter.<\/li>\n<li>Mix 1 C flour and your bowl of water with the starter.\u00a0 Cover and let rest on the counter overnight.\u00a0 Meanwhile, wash your glass storage jar.<\/li>\n<li>The next morning, take 1 C of your mixture and put it into your storage jar and put it back into the fridge.\u00a0 This will be ready to use again the next morning, or you can wait as long as 7-10 days.\u00a0 Two weeks is pushing it, but I&#8217;ll admit that I&#8217;ve done it.<\/li>\n<li>From this point forward, if two weeks go by and you are not ready to bake with your starter, you need to feed it by doings Steps 1-5 and discarding the other half.\u00a0 BETTER YET, after feeding, put half of it into a jar and offer it to a friend.\u00a0 Their starter is live and ready to use.<\/li>\n<li>To use it, just add flour to the mixture.\u00a0 I sometimes add a pinch of yeast to help with the rise.\u00a0 DO NOT add yeast to the part that is going back in the fridge.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is how you will start every single time.
