{"id":14507,"date":"2017-08-06T12:42:09","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T19:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=14507"},"modified":"2019-05-17T11:02:11","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T18:02:11","slug":"puff-pastry-cream-horn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/puff-pastry-cream-horn\/","title":{"rendered":"Puff Pastry Cream Horn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Cream-horn-stand.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  aiif14525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Cream-horn-stand.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"149\" \/><\/a>Here is a recipe I created after seeing the contestants make Puff Pastry Horns on The Great British Bake-off.\u00a0 This recipe makes 12 horns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commercial Puff Pastry Sheets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Lemon Curd Filling<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 egg yolks<\/li>\n<li>1 whole egg<\/li>\n<li>1 cup granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 dashes of salt<\/li>\n<li>lemon zest and juice of 4 lemons ( 3\/4 \u2013 1 C )<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C ( 1 stick \u2013 8 TBL ) butter ( 1\/2 stick melted, and 1\/2 stick cold )<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL corn starch in 1 TBL water<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp vanilla at the very end<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Combine above ingredients and cook in double boiler (stirring continually) until thickened<\/li>\n<li>Pipe into Puff Pastry Horns<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Alternate Filling<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 oz cream cheese<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C powdered sugar<\/li>\n<li>Juice and zest from one lemon<\/li>\n<li>1 8 oz tub of cool whip<\/li>\n<li>a few drops of almond extract<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Combine above ingredients and stir until combined<\/li>\n<li>Pipe into Puff Pastry Horns<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14521\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14521\" style=\"width: 204px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium aiif14521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Piping-Bag.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"204\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14521\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">You don&#8217;t need a fancy piping bag, a baggie with the tip cut off works just fine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Step by Step<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Obtain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Norpro-SS-Cream-Horn-Molds\/dp\/B01BL81RXS\/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1502048847&amp;sr=1-3&amp;keywords=norpro+cream+horn+mold\">Puff Pastry Horn <\/a>forms<\/li>\n<li>Use only 2\/3 of the frozen puff pastry sheet (broken into two rectangles)<\/li>\n<li>Place on a lightly floured surface until it softens<\/li>\n<li>Roll sideways to expand it to about 4 inches<\/li>\n<li>Using a pizza cutter, cut it into thirds long ways, and then half across the middle &#8211; creating six rectangles<\/li>\n<li>Flatten each rectangle &#8220;the long way&#8221; creating a long flat ribbon<\/li>\n<li>Wrap the dough around the form (securing the bottom) and pressing the dough (to seal) as you go<\/li>\n<li>Place on baking sheet with the tail end down (so it does not unwrap)<\/li>\n<li>Refrigerate for one hour before baking<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes &#8211; or until browned<\/li>\n<li>Let cool slightly, then slide the cone off the form<\/li>\n<li>Flip over so that unbaked side is now facing up<\/li>\n<li>Bake for an additional five minutes<\/li>\n<li>Let the form cool, then bake more<\/li>\n<li><strong>Let all horns cool to room temperature before attempting to fill them<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_8718.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aiif14524 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_8718.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"123\" \/><\/a>Let filling cool as well<\/li>\n<li>Pipe in your filling, being sure to get it all they way to the tip of the horn<br \/>\nYou can cut the tip off a baggie if you don&#8217;t have a piping bag (see photo)<\/li>\n<li>Make a day or two ahead, and store in the refrigerator tightly covered<\/li>\n<li>When ready to serve, put on a serving plate and dust with powdered sugar<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a recipe I created after seeing the contestants make Puff Pastry Horns on The Great British Bake-off.\u00a0 This recipe makes 12 horns.
