{"id":13188,"date":"2016-10-17T16:38:24","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T16:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=13188"},"modified":"2023-06-03T19:41:25","modified_gmt":"2023-06-04T02:41:25","slug":"non-stick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/non-stick\/","title":{"rendered":"Tips:  Non-Stick Skillets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/meet-grandpa\/medal\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/medal.jpg\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" align=\"right\"><\/a>This includes teflon, ceramic, and all surfaces that claim to be non-stick.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please also review my post:&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/cast-iron\/\"><strong>Care of your Cast Iron Skillets<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Teflon_Tips\">Teflon Tips<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Teflon, Ceramic and other non-stick finishes need to be taken care of.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thekitchn.com\/tips-for-taking-better-care-of-your-nonstick-cookware-198670\"><strong>Here are some tips that you may find useful<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wash and rub a little canola oil into it before first use.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t heat the pan empty.&nbsp; At least put a little oil into the pan.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t use cooking spray.&nbsp; There is a propellant that will build up and destroy your pan.&nbsp; If you must, get a spritzer bottle and put canola into it.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t let the temperature EVER exceed 450.&nbsp; Ideally, I never even exceed 400\u00ba&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thermoworks.com\/IR-Gun\"><strong>This Thermapen<\/strong><\/a> is one of the best investments you could make.&nbsp; You will use it nearly every single day.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t let food dry on the surface of your pan.&nbsp; When the temperature has dropped to 250\u00ba (or below) wipe it off with a wash cloth and hot water.&nbsp; I usually don\u2019t even like to use soap on mine.<\/li>\n<li>If you can&#8217;t clean it immediately, at least fill it with water to minimize the chemical effects of the remaining cooking oil residue.<\/li>\n<li>If you do use soap on your pan, occasionally wipe in a little canola oil&nbsp; (See Tip #1)<\/li>\n<li>Never ever EVER use abrasive cleansers or pads on your pan.<\/li>\n<li>Never put your teflon or ceramics into the dishwasher.&nbsp; The hot water is OK, but the drying cycle will kill your pan.<\/li>\n<li>For stubborn stains, use a mixture of baking soda and water.&nbsp; mix and apply the paste.&nbsp; Leave for an hour, then wipe off.&nbsp; Repeat if needed.<\/li>\n<li>If your pan has a wooden handle, season it VERY occasionally by wiping with canola oil<\/li>\n<li>Season a hot pan (250\u00ba) occasionally with a paper towel and olive oil (See Tip #1)<\/li>\n<li>Never use metal cookware (spatula, whisk, spoon, etc) when cooking with your non-stick pan<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>THE PENNY TRICK &#8211; If you are boiling water, put a penny in the bottom of your pan.&nbsp; If it boils dry (which will ruin your pan) the penny will start to rattle because of the boiling water beneath the penny.&nbsp; The rattling will tell you your pan is nearly empty (usually) before your pot is destroyed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This includes teflon, ceramic, and all surfaces that claim to be non-stick.
