{"id":11858,"date":"2016-05-15T16:05:50","date_gmt":"2016-05-15T16:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=11858"},"modified":"2020-04-15T10:56:04","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T17:56:04","slug":"lady-fingers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/lady-fingers\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Fingers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is just a nice soft little cake that can be used to make a trifle or even your version of Hostess Twinkies.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Traditional<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/lady-fingers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright aiif11861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/lady-fingers.jpg\" alt=\"lady-fingers\" width=\"250\" height=\"191\"><\/a>3 eggs&nbsp; &#8211; separated<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 tsp vanilla<\/li>\n<li>1 TBL melted cooled butter<\/li>\n<li>6 TBL corn starch &#8211; sifted<\/li>\n<li>6 TBL AP flour &#8211; sifted<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEP BY STEP<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Mark your parchment with three inch lines<\/li>\n<li>Turn paper over so you are not cooking on pencil<\/li>\n<li>Wipe parchment paper with melted butter<\/li>\n<li>Cream together egg yolks and half of your sugar<\/li>\n<li>Add vanilla<\/li>\n<li>Sift together corn starch and flour<\/li>\n<li>In a clean bowl, beat egg whites<\/li>\n<li>Add the rest of your sugar and salt to egg whites<\/li>\n<li>Continue to beat until soft peaks &#8211; not firm or stiff<\/li>\n<li>Combine by hand the yolks and whites<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle flour mixture into the egg mixture<\/li>\n<li>Put into piping bag and pipe into three inch fat sausages<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 400\u00ba for about 12-15 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Let them cool, and then they are ready for whatever use you would like<\/li>\n<li>If you plan to use them just like this, sprinkle them with powdered sugar<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Easy but Not Too Quick<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Simple Shortcake<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>1 C AP flour<\/li>\n<li>2 TBL cornstarch<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp baking soda<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n<li>scant salt<br \/>\n<strong>SIFT TOGETHER ABOVE INGREDIENTS<br \/>\nMEANWHILE, CREAM TOGETHER THE FOLLOWING<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>4 TBL softened butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C room temp sour cream<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp pure vanilla<br \/>\n<strong>Add wet ingredients to the dry, then gently mix<br \/>\nLine a 9&#215;9 glass baking dish with parchment paper and then spray<\/strong><br \/>\nPour mixed ingredients into pan<br \/>\nBake for 30 minutes at 350\u00ba<br \/>\nLet cool 5 minutes before removing<br \/>\nCut into 1\/2 x 1 inch rectangles<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Prepared Strawberries<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>1 large grocery-store box of strawberries (1 quart)<br \/>\nStem removed and halved<\/li>\n<li>1 C sugar mixed with 3 TBL corn starch in 1 C water<\/li>\n<li>Heat to nearly boiling<\/li>\n<li>Add strawberry gelatin or Jello<\/li>\n<li>Pour over strawberries<\/li>\n<li>Let rest 30 minutes\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Yogurt Cream<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C heavy whipping cream &#8211; beat until it starts to thicken<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C plain Greek yogurt &#8211; Greek is thicker<\/li>\n<li>2 TBL granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 TBL brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp vanilla\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Basic Whipped Cream Topping<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>1 C COLD whipping cream &#8211; beat until it starts to thicken<\/li>\n<li>Add 2 TBL sugar and continue beating<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp vanilla\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Assemble<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Put down a thin layer of yogurt cream on the bottom of a CLEAR dish<\/li>\n<li>Stand shortcake rectangles up on end surrounding the sides<\/li>\n<li>Add a layer of strawberries, then a layer of yogurt cream<\/li>\n<li>Add a flat layer of shortcake, yogurt cream and then strawberries<\/li>\n<li>Top the strawberries with the remainder of the yogurt cream<\/li>\n<li>Add strawberries or blueberries in a decorative pattern on the top<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is just a nice soft little cake that can be used to make a trifle or even your version of Hostess Twinkies.
