Use the back button on the Poached Chicken page to return to this recipe.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use a mixture of ground beef and ground pork.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/empanadas\/\"><strong>START HERE<\/strong><\/a> to read about the dough you will be using.\u00a0 You will then have a link to return to this recipe.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/2016-04-04-18.28.10.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10547\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright aiif10547\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/2016-04-04-18.28.10.jpg\" alt=\"2016-04-04 18.28.10\" width=\"236\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>INGREDIENTS<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prepare ahead: Poached and shredded chicken <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/poached-chicken\/\">(recipe here)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">2 C meat<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">4 tomatillos<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">1 jalape\u00f1o (optional: Serrano or Haba\u00f1ero)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">1\/2 onion<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">1\/2 tsp  <\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">2 cloves garlic<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">1 bay leaf<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">2 C broth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>STEP BY STEP<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Barely cover your whole tomatillos, garlic, bay leaf, halved jalapeno and onion with broth.\u00a0 Add water if necessary to cover.<\/li>\n<li>Bring up to boiling, then reduce heat and simmer for ten minutes<\/li>\n<li>Use a spider strainer and move all boiled ingredients to a blender.\u00a0 KEEP LIQUID.\u00a0 Do not discard, you may need it.<\/li>\n<li>Add 1 bunch of cilantro and a sprinkle of salt to your blender<\/li>\n<li>Add enough of the liquid only to allow everything to be blended and chopped<\/li>\n<li>Mix blended ingredients in with your chicken or ground meat<\/li>\n<li>Lay out your dough and egg wash around the entire perimeter<\/li>\n<li>Put some of your chicken mixture in the center, but DO NOT overpack<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle with shredded cheese<\/li>\n<li>Fold one side over, creating a pocket<\/li>\n<li>Crimp the edge with a fork &#8211; firmly but not enough to cut through the dough<\/li>\n<li>Brush top with the egg mixture for a nice glaze<\/li>\n<li>Poke top just one time so that steam can escape, otherwise they may separate<\/li>\n<li>Bake for 25-30 minutes at 350\u00ba<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>ALTERNATE FILLINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smoked chilies<\/li>\n<li>Green chili<\/li>\n<li>Cheese<\/li>\n<li>Green olives<\/li>\n<li>Black olives<\/li>\n<li>Raisins<\/li>\n<li>Chopped red bell peppers<\/li>\n<li>Shredded carrots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before you make this for the first time, view this clip from America&#8217;s Test Kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Beef Empanadas on America&#039;s Test Kitchen Season 11\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uF3CyhL5KhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This recipe from America&#8217;s Test Kitchen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are making Chicken Empanadas, START HERE.
