{"id":10618,"date":"2016-04-09T21:40:52","date_gmt":"2016-04-09T21:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/?p=10618"},"modified":"2020-04-16T11:55:44","modified_gmt":"2020-04-16T18:55:44","slug":"nlof-shepherds-pie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/nlof-shepherds-pie\/","title":{"rendered":"Shepherd&#8217;s Pie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/braised-beef\/\">Braised Beef<\/a> (or any slow-cooked shredded meat) from a previous dinner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/shep-pie.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10630\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright aiif10630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grandpacooks.com\/recipes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/shep-pie.jpg\" alt=\"shep-pie\" width=\"273\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a>INGREDIENTS &#8211; FILLING<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leftover shredded beef or (traditional) ground lamb<\/li>\n<li>4 TBL butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C AP flour<\/li>\n<li>1-1\/2 C chicken broth<br \/>\nIN A SEPARATE MIXING BOWL, COMBINE<\/li>\n<li>1 small carrot \u2013 diced small<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C baby peas<\/li>\n<li>1 small stalk celery \u2013 diced small<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C shredded cheese<\/li>\n<li>4-6 black olives \u2013 diced<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C grated onion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>INGREDIENTS &#8211; TOPPING<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 C mashed potatoes<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>3 TBL cold butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 C shredded cheddar cheese<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 C cream cheese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>STEP BY STEP<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bring sauce pan up to medium heat<br \/>\nFILLING \u2013 \u2013 \u2013 \u2013<\/li>\n<li>Add butter to hot pan<\/li>\n<li>As soon as butter is melted, add flour<\/li>\n<li>As soon as flour starts to ball, add half your broth<\/li>\n<li>Stir until it starts to turn smooth<\/li>\n<li>Add the rest of your broth<\/li>\n<li>Stir until it starts to thicken<\/li>\n<li>When it has thickened (per video below) add it to the mixing bowl with your chopped veggies<br \/>\nTOPPING<\/li>\n<li>Mix potatoes with salt, butter and cheeses<\/li>\n<li>Separate into 4 pieces and let rest five minutes<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, spoon your filling into ramekins for cooking<\/li>\n<li>Carefully spoon potato topping onto filling<\/li>\n<li>Gently spread it out covering the filling<\/li>\n<li>Drag fork tines across the top making a pattern<\/li>\n<li>Poke holes in the top so that steam can escape, otherwise the top may fail.<\/li>\n<li>Bake at 350\u00ba for 25-35 minutes until browned<\/li>\n<li>Let rest five minutes before serving, or cool on counter and refrigerate for reheating later.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Photo from <a href=\"http:\/\/thelittlegsp.com\">The Little GSP<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Use Braised Beef (or any slow-cooked shredded meat) from a previous dinner.
